Strong Start for Chippewa Track and Field at Clark Wood Invitational; Sabourin Bests Own Top-10 Race

CMU saw PRs from Korytkowski, Rush, Sabourin, Merrick and Risner.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An incredible start for Central Michigan on the opening day of the Clark Wood Invitational.
CMU Track and Field saw personal best performances from Peyton Korytkowski, Kaitlynn Rush, Payton Sabourin, Gracie Merrick and Ereka Risner in Louisville on Friday, highlighted by Sabourin's breakthrough in the 400m hurdles, the new third-fastest time in program history.
In the first day of the two-day meet, the Chippewas competed in the 200m, 400m hurdles, hammer throw, shot put and invitational long jump.
Korytkowski finished 16th in the 200m with a personal-best time of 24.87. Rush delivered a PR of 25.27s, finishing 27th, and Sky Austin finished 51st.
Sabourin and Emma Francis competed in the 400h, where Sabourin's historical time of 59.23 earned her 2nd place among 18 competitors. Francis was 10th.
Merrick continued her standout freshman season with a new personal best mark in the hammer throw, where she recorded 45.72m on her second attempt. She finished 15th.
Finishing 6th in the long jump invite was Sarah Daniel, who made a season-best mark of 5.93m.
The shot put rounded out the day for CMU, where Emily McLean finished 6th in a field of 26 from a mark of 13.36m. Risner, a freshman, launched a personal-best 12.60m on her first attempt, which earned her a 12th place finish.
CMU will continue in the Clark Wood Invitational on Saturday, competing in the 100m, 100m hurdles, 400m, discus throw, high jump, pole vault and 4x100 relay.
