ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland scored three runs in the sixth inning on Tuesday in pulling away from Central Michigan for a 9-6 nonconference baseball victory at Oakland Baseball Field.

The Chippewas open a three-game Mid-American Conference series on Thursday (3 p.m.) with Western Michigan on Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium. It marks CMU's final three games of the season.

CMU trailed, 6-5, when the Golden Grizzlies struck for three runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 9-5 on Tuesday.

Jacob Donahue had two hits and Cole Prout had a two-run triple to lead CMU's six-hit attack.

Prout's triple came in the second inning and cut OU's lead to 3-2. Drew Stengren then drove in Prout with a groundout to tie the game.

Oakland answered with three runs in the third as the Golden Grizzlies notched four consecutive two-out hits to re-take the lead, 6-3.

The Chippewas drew to 6-5 in the in the fifth when Bryson Webb was hit by a pitch with two out, Jake Brill drove him in with a double, and then Marquis Jackson followed with an RBI single.

Jackson extended his hit streak to six games and his on-base streak to 18.

Jake Brown (2-2) allowed six runs on four hits over 2 2/3 innings in taking the loss. He walked four and struck out two.

Quin Konuszewski, Trevor Busyn, Jared Hanson and Jonah Milchuck pitched in relief for the Chippewas.
