Big Inning Proves Costly to Baseball in Loss at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan used a seven-run third inning on Wednesday in handing Central Michigan a 9-5 nonconference baseball loss at the Wolverines' Ray Fisher Stadium.
The Chippewas open a three-game Mid-American Conference series at Ball State on Friday (3 p.m.).
Jacob Donahue and Robby Morgan IV had three hits apiece to lead CMU at the plate.
Donahue's two-out, two-run single gave CMU a 3-1 lead in the second inning.
The Wolverines struck for seven runs on eight hits and two Chippewa errors in the third to take the lead for good.
CMU got a run in the first when Cole Prout was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Chippewas' other runs came in the ninth on RBI singles by Donahue and Ely Stuart.
Trey Miller (1-6) started for CMU and took the loss. He allowed eight runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Bryce Hellgeth, Jack Bell, Jake Brown and Evan Waters pitched in relief.
The four Chippewa relievers combined to hold the Wolverines to one run on five hits while striking out six.
