ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Central Michigan Field Hockey dropped a nonleague game to No. 10 ranked Michigan, 0-11, on Sunday at the Wolverines' Phyllis Ocker Field.
The matchup with the Wolverines, led by 25th-year head coach Marcia Pankratz, was the 24th meeting between the CMU and U-M since 2000, omitting the 2020 (2021 spring) season due to COVID-19. CMU's lone victory in the series was in 2009 at Cristy Freese Field, winning 1-0.
The loss was just the second time this season the Chippewas fell in a scoreless matchup, having scored at least one goal in the remainder of the four losses.
Senior goalkeeper Coletta Beeler tallied eight saves in the back 45 minutes, while freshman Jenna Billig went the first 15 in the cage.
CMU, now 3-4 in overall competition, looks to even out the record and pick up its first Mid-American Conference win on Sept. 20 at Cristy Freese Field in Mount Pleasant, when the Chippewas will host Longwood in the league opener.
The matchup between the Chippewas and Lancers will be a 'Maroon Out'. Fans are encouraged to wear maroon and t-shirts will be distributed to the first amount of fans in attendance at the 1 p.m. game.
