MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan's Alex Cramer was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Wrestler of the Week today for his performance over the weekend in the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Â
Cramer, a graduate student from Grayslake, Ill., went 4-0 in leading the Chippewas to a seventh-place finish in the tournament.
Â
Cramer defeated a pair of ranked opponents en route to his perfect weekend. He opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over No. 7 Cade DeVos of South Dakota State and then topped No. 9 Garrett Thompson of Ohio, 2-0.
Â
It marked Cramer's second win of the season over Thompson, and he avenged a loss to DeVos, who pinned Cramer at the 2023 NCAA Championships.
Â
Cramer, who is 13-3 on the season, closed the tournament with an 8-5 sudden victory over Ethan Ducca of Wyoming and a 2-1 win over Jasiah Queen of Drexel.
Â
Cramer, the two-time defending MAC champion at 174, has been ranked No. 1 in the MAC throughout the season. Nationally, he moved to No. 9 in the InterMat rankings and to No. 10 in the FloWrestling rankings.
Â
Cramer and the Chippewas entertain Northern Illinois and Cleveland State in a pair of MAC dual meets this weekend. CMU and NIU will wrestle as part of CMU's Rumble & Tumble at McGuirk Arena on Friday, Jan. 17 (7 p.m.). The Chippewas welcome the Vikings on Sunday, Jan. 19 (2 p.m.).
