Cramer Earns MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan wrestler Alex Cramer was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week for his performance last week in the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals at Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.

Cramer, who carries a 3.93 grade point average and is working toward a master's of computer science, went 4-0 in leading the Chippewas to a seventh-place finish in the tournament.

Cramer defeated a pair of ranked opponents en route to his perfect weekend. He opened with a 4-1 win over No. 7 Cade DeVos of South Dakota State and then topped No. 9 Garrett Thompson of Ohio, 2-0. It marked Cramer's second win of the season over Thompson, and he avenged a loss to DeVos, who pinned Cramer at the 2023 NCAA Championships.

Cramer, who is 13-3 on the season, closed the tournament with an 8-5 sudden victory over Ethan Ducca of Wyoming and a 2-1 win over Jasiah Queen of Drexel. Cramer carries

Cramer is the two-time defending MAC champion at 174 pounds and is ranked No. 1 in the league. He is ranked ninth nationally by InterMat and 10th by FloWrestling.

It marks the second time this season that Cramer has earned the MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor. On Tuesday, Cramer earned the MAC West Wrestler of the Week Award.
