Lovett Returns to CMU Wrestling as Assistant Coach

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Johnny Lovett, one of the all-time greats in the long and storied history of Central Michigan wrestling, has joined coach Ben Bennett's staff as an assistant coach.
Lovett wrestled for the Chippewas from 2019-25, posting a career 133-50 record. His 133 victories are tied with fellow assistant coach Matt Stencel for the second most in CMU history.
Lovett qualified for the NCAA Championships five times in his career and earned the Mid-American Conference title at 149 pounds in 2023-23. He finished second in the MAC Championships twice and third twice in his career.
In 2025, he earned the Charles 'Chick' Sherwood Award as the Chippewas' most valuable wrestler.
A native of Miami, Fla., Lovett earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from CMU with a major in entrepreneurship and a minor in sales.
