Ryon moves to 10 goals on the season, Camryn nets two, Cogger stops 11
Carolena Ryon led the charge offensively for the Chippewas, she logged her second hat trick of the season and moved to 10 goals.
Fridays showing was the fourth time of 2025 where the Chippewas scored five or more goals, each time coming as a win.
Mallory Camryn started the scoring for CMU, logging her 15th goal of the season just two minutes into the game for an early Chippewa lead.
Longwood responded midway through the quarter, to tie the game at one.
Ryon logged the Chippewas' second goal of the game two and a half minutes into the second quarter after a barrage of shots, giving CMU a 2-1 lead that would be held until the third quarter.
"We were really excited at the halftime to have 14 shots and 12 run cage, that was a strong start for us offensively." Chippewa Head Coach Jennifer Johnstone said on the opening half, "That was definitely a big change for us compared to the start of the last few games we've played. In the second half, we were able to continue that pace."
"I'm pleased that we scored five goals. It shows the attacking power we have. The key for us now is showing that consistently."
Eight minutes into the third, Ryon struck again to give the Chippewas a two-goal lead. She was quickly followed by Mallory Camryn for her second goal of the game to put the Chippewas up 4-1.
Ryon struck for the final time two minutes into the fourth quarter to secure the hat trick, and to give CMU a four-goal lead.
"This week after practice, we wanted to bring our most attacking minded people through our midfield and our forward line. I think our middies did an unbelievable job of connecting with the forwards and giving them some great opportunities in circle.
"Lena (Carolena Ryon) did tremendous by getting her second hat trick. I was happy for her that she was able to find the back of the net three times. Mal got two, exciting to see those goals go in and it always feels nice to play with a lead to start the game."
The Lancers snuck in two over the final two minutes past keeper Ashley Cogger, who had 11 saves on 14 shots on goal.
"She (Ashley Cogger) is solid for us between the pipes. I think not only does she do a good job of making saves when she needs to, but she's so instrumental in organizing our defense and making sure we're matching up and doing our job in our 25 as well."
The Chippewas' continue their Virginia road trip Sunday, Oct. 26, at Virginia Commonwealth, a final tune up before the regular season conference finale at Bellarmine, Oct. 31.
"VCU is a good team, I can't think of a better opponent for us to play and get us ready potentially for postseason play. They're very fast; they're a skilled team; it's going to be a true test. The challenge for us is showing up on Sunday and bringing that same attacking mindset in the circle and through our attacking 50."
