Wrestlers 2nd in MAC Preseason Poll; Amaker No. 1 at 165 pounds

Six Chippewas ranked in top 5 in their weight class
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan's Chandler Amaker is ranked No. 1 at 165 pounds in the preseason Mid-American Conference wrestling rankings, released by the league today.
The Chippewas finished second behind George Mason in the team poll of league coaches. The Patriots finished with 103 points, while the Chippewas had 89.5. Lock Haven (85) was third.
The Chippewas and Lock Haven are defending west and east division champions, respectively, and the Bald Eagles placed first, while CMU was second, a year ago at the MAC Championships.
Amaker, a redshirt senior, is the defending MAC runner-up at 165 and one of CMU's seven full- or part-time returning starters. Also back is Jimmy Nugent, a starter at 141 in 2022-23 who redshirted last season.
Other Chippewas and their rankings: 125 pounds, Kaden Chinavare, sixth; 133, Andrew Austin, third; 141, Kellan Aure, ninth; 149, Jimmy Nugent, seventh; 157, Mason Shrader, second; 174, Mason Alessio, fifth; 184, Adrien Cramer, eighth; 197, Luke Cochran, third; 285, Bryan Caves, second.
Austin and Shrader were also MAC runners-up last season, Austin at 141 and Shrader at 149. Cochran was third at 197 while Caves finished fifth at 285.
