Four Chippewas log at least one goal, Billig closes out the game with five saves
WORCESTER, Mass. – Central Michigan Field Hockey earned a 5-0 win over Merrimack College Sunday, the team's seventh win of the season – the most since 2014.
Four different Chippewas found the back of the cage, the most since a 9-6 win over Long Island (Sep. 13), when five Chippewas scored.
Hailey Bainer logged the first goal of the game during the second quarter after being fed by Annabelle Cotroneo. The goal was Bainer's second of the season, and her first career game winner. The assist was Cotroneo's first of 2025.
Mora Rulli found the back of the cage less than a minute later, this time Bainer found herself with the assist. Rulli leads CMU freshman with 13 points, coming from three goals and seven assists.
At the half, starting keeper Ashley Cogger was subbed out for Jenna Billig. The Chippewa back line made easy work for Cogger, who only had to make one save through 30. Billig had a little more work cut out for her, collecting five saves, but not allowing a goal. The combined effort led to CMU's second shutout of the season, the first coming in the home opener against Mercyhurst (Sep. 5) in a 4-0 win.
Mallory Camryn started the second half quick for the Chippewas, netting her Mid-American Conference leading 14th goal of the season for a three-goal lead.
Peyton Pallman came up late with some insurance for the Chippewas, netting her first two career goals within two minutes of each other. With just under four minutes remaining Camryn fed Pallman to put the Chippewas up four, and with two and a half minutes left she took it herself for the Chippewas fifth goal.
Pallman joins Rulli as the second Chippewa of the season to score their first two career goals in the same game. Rulli found her first two against LIU, with the Chippewa's fifth and ninth goals.
As a team the Chippewas led in shots, 25-11 and shots on goal, 15-6. The Warriors tied the Chippewas with five penalty corners apiece.
Central Michigan Field Hockey returns home for a MAC affair against Appalachian State Friday, Oct. 10 at 1:00 p.m. The Chippewas are looking to avenge a 2-1 loss in the two squads' previous meeting.
