A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Zyzelewski Family Vice President/Director of Athletics Amy Folan and Central Michigan Athletics has announced that head field hockey coach Jennifer Johnstone's contract will not be renewed and a national search for the program's next head coach begins immediately.
"I want to thank Coach Johnstone for her dedication to our student-athletes, the university, and Mount Pleasant community during her four seasons of service at Central Michigan University," Folan said. "At this time, I have determined that we need to go in a different direction with our field hockey program. I am confiden t that with our program's history of success, our commitment to field hockey, and our track record of developing female student-athletes will attract a high-caliber candidate pool."
In her four seasons as Central Michigan's head coach, Johnstone compiled a 16-55 overall record and 4-26 MAC record.
Historically, the Central Michigan field hockey program has advanced to NCAA postseason play two times (1990, 2005), won three MAC regular season titles (1990, 2002, 2014), claimed two MAC tournament titles (1990, 2005), made three AIAW national tournament appearances (1975, 1976, 1977), won three AIAW state championships (1975, 1976, 1977) and three AIAW regional championships (1975, 1976, 1977).
Associate Athletic Director for Sport Performance Joel Welsh will lead the program in the interim until a new head coach is appointed.
