MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Led by six double figure scorers, Central Michigan shot 63.4 percent from the floor and jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in defeating NCAA Division III Adrian 112-67 Tuesday night at McGuirk Arena. "I thought we had a lot of good possessions where we moved the ball," Central Michigan head coach Andy Bronkema said. "Sometimes we got a little selfish but we dialed it back in to how we want to play. I thought Adrian had some good ball pressure, were in the passing lanes and when we were loose with the basketball, we turned it over. Ball security is something we have to work on. We had a full rotation, everyone contributed tonight. We appreciate playing at home and it's a good homecourt advantage."
Central Michigan took control early in the game with an 18-0 run to go up 30-9 at the 11:21 mark. Johnson started the rally with a dunk, Claerbaut scored on a layup, Will Ashford added a layup, Brooks and Keenan Garner both followed with layups, Johnson scored on a nice drive and post play. Then Kayden Nation and McIntire closed out the run with layups. After that run, Central Michigan was in total control.
The Chippewas built their largest first half lead, 28 points (59-31) with 18 seconds to go in the half and led 59-35 at halftime.
Central Michigan outscored Adrian 53-32 in the second half.
"We're going to enjoy Thanksgiving with a couple of days off after they go to class tomorrow," Bronkema said. "We'll be back in the gym Saturday night and prepare for Loyola."
For the second straight game, Central Michigan started Nick Mullen and Rodney Johnson, Jr. at forward, Claerbaut at center, and Logan McIntire and Tamario Adley at guard.
Adrian was led by Seth Logan, who scored 23 points and hit 5-13 3-pointers. Darrius Welch added 16 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs.
