Chippewas wrap up fall portion of schedule with seventh-place finish
ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – Central Michigan's Keith Hunter shot a 4-over par 75 on Monday during the final round of the Fripp Island Intercollegiate at Ocean Creek Golf Club.
Hunter finished the 54-hole event with a 2-over 215 total and tied for seventh place.
It marked Hunter's second top-10 finish in four stroke-play tournaments of the fall portion of CMU's schedule. He finished T5 in CMU's season-opening event, the Joe Feaganes Invitational in Huntington, W. Va. He then finished T15 at the Chippewas' second event, the Earl Yestingmeier Invitational in Muncie, Ind.
Hunter opened the Fripp Island Intercollegiate with a 5-under 66 and then posted a 3-over 74 in Sunday's second round. The 5-under was a career best for Hunter, a senior from New Hamburg, Ontario, and his 66 matched his career low aggregate score.
Freshman Hudson Vedder also shot 75 on Monday and, with Hunter, led the Chippewas to a 306 team score. CMU finished in seventh place in the nine-team field with an 885 total.
Also for CMU on Monday, Jeffrey Andrus shot 76, Philippe Yturralde posted an 80, and Jeffrey Sager carded an 82. CMU's Nicholas Kilgore, playing as an individual, shot 83.
Andrus finished at 11-over 224 and tied for 28th, Vedder finished at 12-over 225 and in 31st, Yturralde finished at 14-over 227 and tied for 35th, and Sager finished at 16-over 229 and tied for 40th. Kilgore finished at 246. The field comprised 57 players.

The tournament was the last of the fall season for CMU, which resumes play with the Lake Jovita Invitational, hosted by Ball State, at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla., Feb. 9-10.
