Alexa Martel finished the contest with 427 career saves after just 30 minutes in goal; Martinsen, Farrar each post a pair of goals
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — After nine months being five saves from the Central Michigan Lacrosse all-time career record, senior goalie Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) became the new leader before the end of the first quarter in Sunday's loss at 13th-ranked Notre Dame, 20-7.
The reigning Mid-American Conference Goalie of the Year now stands at 427 career saves. She was second among non-senior goalies in NCAA I for career saves at the end of the 2024 season.
Senior Reagan Martinsen (Long Beach, N.Y. / Long Beach) led the offense with her seventh career three-point game, including two first-half goals. Sophomore Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) matched Martinsen's two goals in the fourth quarter, collecting via free position with less than nine minutes left before giving Martinsen her assist in the final minute.
After the Fighting Irish struck first, senior Hanna Wenger (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland) posted a tying goal nearly four minutes in, handing freshman Katherine Erickson (St. Charles, Ill. / North) her first collegiate assist.
The Chippewa sideline roared its loudest late in the third quarter. Senior Maggie Merrill (Marriottsville, Md. / Marriotts Ridge), who made her first appearance since 2022 on Sunday, scored from the right post. She was immediately ambushed with excitement from her teammates.
Sunday marked both the most goals scored by CMU, and fewest scored by Notre Dame in the five meetings between the two programs since 2020.
The CMU Lacrosse Complex officially opens for 2025 on Wednesday as the Chippewas welcome Marquette—their most familiar non-conference opponent—for a 3 p.m. ET first draw.
