BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Central Michigan pitching surrendered 14 hits, nine of them for extra bases including three home runs on Saturday in falling to Western Kentucky, 10-5, at the Hilltoppers' Nick Denes Field.

The Chippewas and Hilltoppers conclude their four-game series on Sunday (2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT). WKU has won the first three games of the set.

Western Kentucky (10-1) got a solo homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the second in building a 5-1 lead, chasing CMU starter Lian Stumpf.

The Hilltoppers scored three runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 9-3.

Spencer Verburg hit his team-leading third homer of the season for the Chippewas (2-9) in the ninth inning.

Jake Kutella singled and doubled and Carter Campau had two hits to lead the Chippewas' 10-hit attack. CMU stranded 11 baserunners.

Stumpf (0-3) surrendered five runs on seven hits over 1 1/3 innings in taking the loss. Hayden Bailey, Jack Smith and Quin Konuszewski worked in relief.

The Chippewas got a run in the second inning on a Zach Knowlton infield RBI single and then scored twice in the fifth, cutting their deficit to 5-3, on a Kutella RBI single and an error, one of four committed by the Hilltoppers on the day.

Verburg led off the ninth with a homer and the Chippewas got their final run on a Cayden Smith RBI single.
