A defensive struggle through three quarters breaks in favor of Sunday’s host in the fourth
AKRON, Ohio — Central Michigan Lacrosse dropped its second Mid-American Conference contest Sunday, 9-7, at Akron.
Seven different Chippewas found the back of the net with Celia Dow (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) the only to record multiple points with a goal and a pair of assists.
Dow's efforts came on each of CMU's final three goals. She assisted Sadie Hinkle's (Medina, Ohio / Medina) strike in response to the first two-goal margin, then scored 45 seconds later to tie the game with 2:48 to go in the third quarter. Dow also earned an assist on the last-minute score by Hanna Wenger (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland).
Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) returned to her post to tally 12 saves after missing last week's bout against Kent State. She sits two saves shy of her third triple-digit season in the category after eclipsing 500 career saves at Canisius (March 12).
Maggie Merrill (Marriottsville, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) opened the scoring just over 30 seconds into the game. Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny), Kelsey Barratt (Voorhees, N.J. / Eastern) and Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) contributed to the 4-4 tie at intermission. Barratt also finished with a career high with six ground balls.
Central Michigan Lacrosse returns to Mount Pleasant March 30 to host Eastern Michigan for its first annual PRIDE game, another Noon ET first draw.
