Chippewas Open 2025 Outdoor Season at Texas State

Rush runs 200m PR to finish 20th of 51
SAN MARCOS, Texas — Central Michigan Track and Field got its start to the 2025 outdoor track and field season on Thursday, competing at Texas State's Bobcat Invitational.
Eight CMU student-athletes competed on the first day of the three-day meet stretch, competing in the discus, 200m, 400m and 800m. The Chippewas will continue competition through Friday and Saturday through multiple events, both track and field events.
Sophomore Gracie Merrick competed on Thursday for the Chippewa throwers, finishing 5th of 34 in the discus with a launch of 42.38m. She is set to compete in section B of the hammer throw on Friday.
Chippewa sprinter Kaitlynn Rush ran a personal-best 24.95 in section B of the 200m, good for a 20th place finish out of 51 competitors. She is currently slated for the 100m race on Saturday.
Freshman Danica Shamion dominated section B of the 400m in her first collegiate outdoor competition, finishing 2nd with a time of 58.87. Sophomores Robyn Watts and Sophia Garland finished 11th and 14th, respectively.
In the 800m for CMU were Chesney Wilke, Olivia East, Lois Creasey and Libby Munderloh. Sophomore Wilke led the charge, finishing 8th of 69. East finished 12th, Creasey 37th and Munderloh 38th.
Wilke, East and Creasey will compete in the 1500m on Friday, while Munderloh is set for the 400mH.
Chippewa pole vaulters Emily Yoshino and Riley Nielsen will compete in section B of the pole vault on Friday. Throwers Emily McLean and Amyah Chosa are set for section B of the shot put on Friday, and the CMU 4x400 squad of Watts, Garland, Shamion and Rush will compete on Saturday.
