Newcombe, Paupore into Outdoor Top-10 in Raleigh; Yoshino vaults into Top-10 at Texas State

Newcombe runs 2nd-fastest outdoor 5,000m; Paupore third-fastest 10,000m, Yoshino 8th-best pole vault mark in school history
RALEIGH, N.C. — Central Michigan's Natalie Newcombe and Emily Paupore raced their way into the Outdoor Track and Field All-Time Top 10 on Friday evening at the Raleigh Relays, marking a strong start to the outdoor season for the two seniors. Additionally, sophomore Emily Yoshino pole vaulted into the Outdoor Top-10, a strong follow-up after a successful indoor season.
Newcombe finished 30th of 179 runners in the 5000m, running a personal-best 16:09.64, good for second-fastest in CMU history.
Paupore moved up to third all-time in the 10,000m with a time of 34:22.33 in the invitational section.
Kate Jenkins and freshman JoAnna Kelley ran the second section of the 10,000m, finishing 68th and 71st, respectively.
The rest of the Chippewa track and field squad continued on in San Marcos, competing in the second day of Texas State's Bobcat Invitational.
Yoshino moved into 8th all-time in CMU outdoor pole vault history, finishing 5th with a height of 3.75m. Riley Nielsen finished 6th in section B of the pole vault with a height of 3.60m.
CMU throwers Emily McLean placed 3rd of 33 in section B of the shot put with a throw of 13.94m. Freshman Amyah Chosa finished 19th.
Gracie Merrick finished 9th of 33 in section B of the hammer throw with a mark of 45.46m.
Libby Munderloh, a junior, finished 25th of 46 in the 400mH with a time of 1:03.98.
Freshman Olivia East led the Chippewas in the 1500m with an 18th-place finish of 63 runners. She was joined by Lois Creasey, also a freshman, who finished 20th, and sophomore Chesney Wilke, who was 30th.
The Chippewas are set for two more events on Saturday, with Kaitlynn Rush set to compete in the 100m and the 4x400 squad of Robyn Watts, Sophia Garland, Danica Shamion and Rush to close things out on Saturday evening.
