3/29/2025 6:03:00 PM | Softball
CMU Softball grabbed a decisive victory over Buffalo in New York, but the final game of the series was canceled due to weather.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The bats have been hot for Team 47 – and they stayed that way on Saturday afternoon.
The Central Michigan Softball Team recorded their 11th game in the 2025 season with 10 or more hits, charting 11 in the 9-0 win over Buffalo in five innings.
CMU and Buffalo were supposed to play another game on Saturday, but rain canceled the game after CMU was leading 5-0 in the bottom of the second when the game was called. This is the second straight MAC weekend for the Chippewas where weather has canceled the final game of the series.
CMU moves to 13-15 overall and 5-2 in Mid-American Conference play. The Chippewas will entertain in-state rival, Western Michigan on Tuesday, April 1st in a double header at Margo Jonker Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
Mackenzie Langan threw her third complete game shutout of the season while also charting a career high nine strikeouts in the victory. Langan threw five full innings and allowed just two hits.
Carly Sleeman opened the game for the Chippewas with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. That home run marks the 12th of the season for Sleeman, and her fifth in MAC play. Sleeman has now tripled her home run total from her freshman season, where she sent four out of the park in 2024.
Keira Tolmie doubled to start the second inning for CMU and would later score the second run of the game after advancing to third after an Emma Lotus ground out, and then ultimately scoring on a passed ball.
Sleeman recorded her second extra-base hit of the day with a double in the top of the fourth inning to score Tori Briggs and Lotus.
CMU put a curved number on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning scoring the final five runs of the game. Tolmie notched her second hit of the day to score Grace Koenig for the first run in the fifth, and a ground ball through the legs of the Bulls' first baseman off the bat of Maddison Diekman, allowed Tolmie and Lotus to touch the plate; 7-0 CMU.
Tori Briggs capped off the scoring with her second home run of the season to reach the final 9-0 decision in the fifth inning.
Langan struck out the final three outs of the game in the bottom half of the inning, and the Chippewas headed home to Mount Pleasant with a 2-0 weekend in New York.
