Team 47 Charts Sweep Over Western Michigan in Two Run-Rule Victories

Central Michigan Softball extended their win streak to eight games as they defeated in-state foe, Western Michigan two times on Tuesday afternoon.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Offense that continues to be hot and a team that is just clicking on all cylinders.
Central Michigan Softball defeated Western Michigan at Margo Jonker Stadium on Tuesday afternoon with two run-rule victories, 13-0 and 8-0, both in five innings.
The Chippewas have extended their win streak to eight games, dating back to the first day of conference play when they dropped both games at NIU on March 14th. Since that date, the Chippewas have outscored their opponents 78-30.
Team 47 that is young, has continued to find success and that carried right through into the games over the Broncos.
Game 1
The offense started right from the get-go in the first game, Emma Lotus drew a leadoff walk, Carly Sleeman singled and London Williams recorded her seventh home run of the season. The dead center round tripper from Williams gave CMU the 3-0 lead.
CMU added four runs in the bottom of the second after Keira Tolmie and Maddison Diekman drew walks, and a sacrifice fly from Carly Sleeman scored them both.
Williams came up big again in her second plate appearance and singled up the middle which scored Lotus who reached on an error by the Bronco's second baseman.
Rachel Cairo grounded out to second base in the same inning, but Sleeman came around to score on the play; 7-0 CMU.
Lotus had an RBI single in the third to score Tolmie, Williams drew a bases loaded walk, and Lotus scored on a groundout by Tori Briggs. Central Michigan extended their lead to 10-0 at the end of the third inning.
Allyssa Hollo put the finishing touches on the game in the bottom of the fourth inning with her third home run of the year – a three run shot to bring the score to 13-0 in favor of the Maroon & Gold.
Central Michigan used an array of batters in the bottom of the fourth inning, including Hannah Tassin who recorded her first hit as a Chippewa with a single up the middle.
Brooklyn Compau started the game for the Chippewas and went four complete allowing just four hits. The sophomore collected her fifth win of the season, and her fourth in her last four appearances.
Madison Wendel took the circle for the final three outs against the Broncos and struck out two of the four batters she faced – needing just 13 pitches.
Game 2
Mackenzie Langan tallied her sixth win of her junior season in game two against the Broncos, throwing a complete five innings, striking out four and allowing four hits – facing just 19 batters.
CMU won 8-0 in five innings in the second game, and Emma Lotus walked it off with a sacrifice fly to left field to score Cierra Laska who entered as a pinch runner.
Seven different Chippewas recorded hits in the game, as the team recorded nine as a squad. Lotus and Grace Koenig each had two hits and Tori Briggs led with two RBI.
Lotus has had multi-hit games in four of the last six for CMU.
Carly Sleeman drove in the first run of the game for the Chippewas in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to score Lotus.
The two RBI for Briggs came from an inside the park home run hit sharply down the right field line, as Sleeman trotted in ahead of her, in the same inning.
Koenig drew a bases loaded walk and Ashley Bila scored for the fourth run of the game in the fifth inning.
An RBI single from Keira Tolmie scored Briggs, Jenna Kuzara had a 2 RBI pinch hit double and Lotus ultimately walked the game off.
Central Michigan advances to 15-15 on the season and 7-2 in MAC play, while WMU falls to 8-25 and 2-6 in the conference.
