Chippewa golfers look to close strong Tuesday
SUGAR LAND, Texas – Central Michigan men's golf placed 14th after two rounds Monday at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational hosted by Houston Christian University at Sweet Water Country Club.
The Chippewas opened the tournament with a 306 first-round score, followed by a second-round 325 for a 631 total through 36 holes while battling windy conditions.
"Exceptionally excited and happy about being able to compete again and get moving towards improvement," Chippewa coach Kevin Jennings said. "Today was a very challenging day, a lot of wind, a very challenging golf course. We just learn what we can from today and apply it to tomorrow and apply it moving forward and improve."
Jeffrey Andrus led Central Michigan on the day with a first-round score of 74, followed by 81 in the second round totaling 155 on the day tying for 63 in the 79-player field.
CMU's Orlando Coons logged 76 - 83 – 159; Keith Hunter shot 77 - 83 – 160, Easton Phillips carded 83 - 78 – 161, and Nicholas Kilgore with a 79 - 86 – 165 performance.
Coons enters day two 72nd, Hunter tied for 73rd, Phillips tied for 75th, and Kilgore in 78th.
The Chippewas will finish the tournament Tuesday morning before heading to the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz. On Saturday.
