Katona Tied for 15th; Chippewas 8th After First Round of MAC Championship

Tournament at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind. continues Monday
MUNCIE, Ind. – Hailey Katona shot a 2-over par 74 on Sunday to lead the Central Michigan women's golf team during the first round of the Mid-American Conference Championship at Delaware Country Club.
Katona is tied for 15th in the 50-player field. The Chippewas posted a 305 team score on Sunday and are in eighth place in the 10-team field.
They are two shots behind seventh-place Northern Illinois (303) and are three out of a tie for fifth with Akron and host Ball State, both of which shot 302 on Sunday.
The second round of the three-round, 54-hole event is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Monday. The final round is set for Tuesday (9 a.m.).
CMU's Rachel Niskanen shot a 3-over 75 on Sunday and is tied for 21st; Ella Zanatta shot 76 and is tied for 23rd; Lauren Davis is tied for 36th after carding an 80; and Alexis McMurray shot 81 and is tied for 41st.
Ball State's Jasmine Driscoll shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday and holds a four-shot lead over three players: Kent State's Leon Takagi and Bowling Green teammates Addison Kartusch and Sammie Dolce.
Kent State, which has won every team title since the MAC instituted a women's golf championship in 1999, shot a 289 team score on Sunday and holds a seven-shot lead over Bowling Green (296). Ohio and Eastern Michigan are tied for third after both shooting 301 on Sunday.
