CMU ranked among national competitors with average time of 10:53.42
NEW ORLEANS — Central Michigan Track and Field has been ranked 14th nationally in the women's 3000 steeplechase event by the United State Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association, as announced in the fourth check-in of the outdoor season on April 22.
CMU ranks among competitors from across NCAA Division I with an average squad time of 10:53.42. Emily Paupore, Emma Janesak, Emma Netzel and Nikki Carothers have each contributed times in the steeplechase in the 2025 outdoor track and field season.
Paupore, leading the MAC with a personal-best (and CMU school record) of 9:56.45, ranks 12th nationally and 2nd in the Great Lakes region for the event. She placed 4th among national competitors on April 18 at the Wake Forest Invitational.
Janesak holds a season-best time of 10:53.71, Netzel follows with 11:17.75 and Carothers, a freshman, has a personal-best time of 11:25.76.
The USTFCCCA "EventSquad" rankings places a rank order to a program's "squad" of athletes in a particular event, using the cumulative season-best qualifying marks from a team's top-four ranked athletes on the national descending-order list. As with the national descending-order list for qualifying and seeding purposes, marks are subject to be converted due to track size and/or altitude. A team must have four or more athletes with a valid season-best mark to achieve a ranking in a particular event.
The Chippewas will travel to a pair of in-state meets on April 25 and 26, traveling to Hillsdale on Friday for the Hillsdale Tune-Up and to Allendale on Saturday for the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet.
