
Men's Golf Eighth After MAC Championship First Round

GROVE CITY, Ohio – Central Michigan men's golf played the first round of the Mid-American Conference Championship tournament Sunday. The 54-hole event is hosted by Bowling Green at Pinnacle Country Club outside of Columbus.
As a team the Chippewas logged 303 (+15), finishing day one eighth in the nine-team field, five strokes ahead of Ohio, in sunny, favorable conditions.
Keith Hunter led the Chippewas through the first round. His two-birdie performance made way for a 74-stroke (+2) finish good to tie 19th in the field.
Easton Phillips and Jeffrey Andrus each finished with 76 (+4) on the day, each logging three birdies and, are in a five-way tie for 28th.
Jeffrey Sager fell one stroke behind Phillips and Andrus at 77 (+5), tallying four birdies, three coming on the back nine. Sager enters round two tied for 33rd place.
Nicholas Kilgore rounded out the Chippewas carding 85 (+13) on the day to tie at 44th.
Entering round two Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois are tied for the team lead, each logging a three-under-par 285.
The Eagles' James Baxter holds the solo lead at 67 for five under par through 18. Following one stroke behind is the Huskies' Craig Long II at 68 (-4), while Rory McDonald-O'Brien holds third at 69 (-3).
