Baseball Drops Series Opener at Western

The loss dropped the Chippewas to 17-28, 9-13 MAC. CMU, Western and Eastern Michigan are tied for sixth place in the league. The top six teams make the conference tournament.
CMU and Western play a doubleheader on Saturday (11 a.m.).
The Broncos struck for eight runs on five hits and two CMU errors in the third inning on Friday and the Chippewas never got closer than five runs the rest of the way.
Mikey Murphy singled, doubled and drove in two runs to lead CMU at the plate.
CMU starter Alejandro Espinoza (2-8) took the loss. He surrendered seven runs – four earned – on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings. Nate Ross, Jack Otis, Max Hammond, Jake Brown and Quin Konuszewski pitched in relief.
