Central Michigan Softball enters the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament as the #3 seed and will face #6 NIU on Wednesday afternoon.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Team 47 has had an incredible year thus far, but the young squad is headed to the postseason with even higher expectations.
Central Michigan will participate in the 2025 MAC Tournament as the #3 seed – their highest seed in a six-team tournament since 2017 when the team won the regular season title.
Miami (OH), who claimed their sixth straight regular season title enters the tournament as the overall #1 seed, and Ohio enters as the #2. The #4 seed is Ball State, #5 goes to Akron and the Northern Illinois Huskies will be the #6 seed.
CMU and NIU will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7th at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.
For the second straight season, the Central Michigan Chippewas did not get swept in a single season by a MAC opponent. Ending the regular season with a 17-8 record in the conference, with a .620 win-percentage, the Chippewas posted the best conference season under sixth year head coach, McCall Salmon, and their highest since the 2017 season when the team finished 18-5 (.783).
Central Michigan started the 2025 MAC campaign with NIU, in DeKalb, and dropped the series with two losses on the first day to the Huskies.
After collecting a victory in the final game of the series with NIU, CMU went on to win 11 of their next 13 MAC games, including winning eight in a row, while also collecting a victory over Michigan State in the stretch.
The 2025 Chippewas outscored their MAC opponents 159-91 in the conference season, charted 222 hits compared to their opponents 183, went 33-37 with stolen bases, and sophomore catcher limited their opponents to being just 9-13 on the basepaths.
Central Michigan played a plethora of underclassmen for the entirety of the 2025 season, but in MAC play, every game totaled at least seven freshmen or sophomores in the starting lineup.
In the 25 MAC games played by CMU this season, there have been two starting lineups where seven of the ten positions were held by underclassmen, 15 games with eight, and in eight games, there have been nine of the ten spots occupied by freshmen or sophomore players.
Youth has been key; all season.
The Chippewas tallied a total of 275 runs in the 2025 season, that is the most in a single season in program history.
Central Michigan will begin the tournament on Wednesday, May 7th in the quarterfinal game.
All games will be streamed on ESPN+.
