Emily Paupore breaks record that stood for 38 years, sets school-record in the 5,000-meter at this past weekend’s Duke Twilight Meet
CLEVELAND, Ohio—Senior distance runner Emily Paupore was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday. It is the sixth time in her career that she has earned this award.
Paupore set the Central Michigan school record in the 5,000-meter run, a mark that has stood since 1987, with a 15:57.14 time and placed third out of 35 runners at this past weekend's Duke Twilight Meet. Paupore set the previous record held by Chris Cooper in 1987.
This weekend's race was pivotal for Paupore, who is aiming to qualify for the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The NCAA East Preliminaries are set to take place in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 28-30, Paupore currently ranks No. 2 in the league, No. 42 in the region and No. 84 in NCAA Division I in the 5,000-meter run.

Paupore maintains a 3.86 grade point average as a Teaching Grades PK-6 major. She will graduate this week from Central Michigan University.
