Cameron nets two as Chippewas fall at home on International Students Day
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey team opened Mid-American Conference play Friday against James Madison and fell 5-2.
Cameron Pluciennik led a late push by the Chippewas, netting two goals in the final five minutes.
Pluciennik was able to land her stick on a shot attempt by Hailey Bainer, tipping the ball up and past the keeper to get the Chippewas on the board.
Her second came off a pass by Carolena Ryon, who was able to find Pluciennik down low for CMU's second goal.
CMU held the Dukes scoreless until the second quarter, when JMU able put three past starting keeper Ashley Cogger.
JMU added their final two in the third, making way for a Chippewa goal change. Cogger left the game tallying five saves over 42 minutes. Sophomore Jenna Billig finished off the game, recording two saves.
CMU led JMU in corners 8-4 but trailed the Dukes' in shots 11-17.
Central Michigan returns with MAC play Friday, Sept. 26, at Ball State before hosting Ohio Sunday, Sept. 28.
