The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year earns program’s first weekly honor in three years
CLEVELAND — Central Michigan Women's Basketball sophomore guard Madi Morson (Canton, Mich. / Salem) was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
Morson produced 22.5 points per game on 60.7 percent shooting from the field across the Hoops For Hunger victory over Kent State (Jan. 7; W, 66-57) and the near-comeback victory at Massachusetts (Jan. 10; L, 74-72).
Her performance against the Golden Flashes led to the program's first victory against Kent State since 2021 and first Hoops For Hunger victory since 2019. Morson scored 23 of her 27 points at UMass in a second-half rally that nearly erased an 18-point deficit.
Morson is the league leader in points per conference game (23.2) and second in points per game overall (17.5). She has produced six 20-point games this season, 16 in her career.
The sophomore's selection ended a three-year drought in MAC weekly honors, last achieved by Rochelle Norris on Jan. 9, 2023.
Central Michigan Women's Basketball sits idle in league play Wednesday before it hosts Eastern Michigan Saturday (Jan. 17) at 1 p.m. ET.
