Softball Splits in Minnesota with Three Home Runs in Game One

Alexa Carter homered twice and London Williams added one in softball’s day against LIU and Minnesota.
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Central Michigan Softball splint the second day of the Gopher Indoor Classic at USBank Stadium. The Chippewas move to 4-5 on the season and Minnesota advanced to 6-7 and LIU ended the day at 0-14.
Game 1
Alexa Carter hit two home runs and London Williams hit a shot of her own to score five of the nine runs for Central Michigan. Carter ended the first game 2-3 as well as Rachel Cairo and Emma Lotus. Angela Petrovitch went 2-2 with a walk and a triple. Williams and Carter each tallied three RBI.
The game started hot when Petrovitch tripled over the head of the LIU right fielder and score on a single from Williams. A run was walked in, scored by Williams to give CMU the 2-0 tilt.
Emma Lotus singled down the right filed line and plated Cairo and Jenna Kuzara; 4-1 CMU.
The next three runs were scored via two of the home runs, and the final run came from Carters second round tripper of the game in the sixth.
LIU scored in the first with an RBI double and again in the 3rd with an RBI single.
Brooklyn Compau took the start and threw 4.0 innings issuing three hits with five strikeouts. Cierra Laska entered in relief for three shutout innings with just one hit allowed.
CMU tallied 12 hits in the game, the sixth of the season with 10+ hits.
Game 2
Central Michigan fell 1-6 to the Golden Gophers in the evening matchup. The Chippewas charted just four hits but held the Gophers to six.
Mackenzie Langan took the start for CMU in the circle and threw four innings issuing just three hits grabbing two strikeouts. Freshman Aubrey Strelow finished the final two innings of work in the circle with three hits and a strikeout of her own.
Ashley Bila recorded her first career start as the designated player in the Chippewa lineup.
Grace Koenig charted two of the four hits for CMU and Jenna Kuzara and Rachel Cairo each added one. Kuzara recorded the RBI for Central Michigan in the fourth inning that scored Koenig.
Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the first, added another in the third and fourth, with their final two runs in the fifth inning.
The Chippewas and Gophers will face off for the finale of the tournament on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (ET).
