Williams Homers as Softball Drops Two at Belmont

Central Michigan Softball dropped two games at Belmont on Friday afternoon as the opening stop for the Tennessee trip.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Central Michigan and Belmont played a doubleheader on Friday afternoon for the first of five games for the Chippewas in Tennessee this weekend. The Chippewas dropped both games to the Bruins and move to 5-7 on the season while Belmont advances to 10-5. CMU fell in the first games 5-6 and 1-10 in the second game in five innings.
Central Michigan will head to Clarksville, Tenn. to play the next three games of the trip at Austin Peay. CMU will play Stonehill and Austin Peay on Saturday and will close out the weekend with Southern Indiana on Sunday morning.
In the first game, the Chippewas and Bruins battled back and forth until Belmont ultimately walked it off in the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo home run.
Belmont struck first with an RBI single in the second inning and two in the third, taking a 4-0 lead heading into the fourth.
London Williams had other plans for that when she stepped into the box and hit her third home run of the season, getting the Chippewas on the board.
Central Michigan scored again on an RBI single up the middle from Tori Briggs, and a two RBI single frm Ashley Bila scored Briggs and Rachel Cairo to tie the game. CMU took the lead in the fifth inning when Jenna Kuzara stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher and advanced home on the same play on an error from the center fielder.
The Bruins tied the game with a home run in the sixth and walked it off with a home run in the seventh.
Brooklyn Compau started the game for the Chippewas and threw two innings facing 11 batters. Cierra Laska entered to throw three innings with three strikeouts allowing one run. Mackenzie Langan who entered in the bottom of the sixth inning took the loss for the game.
In game two, the Bruins scored two runs in the second on a two-run home run and scored eight more in the fourth to reach their total of 10. The Chippewas avoided the shutout with a two-RBI double from Angela Petrovitch in the fifth inning.
Mackenzie Langan took the start and the loss for CMU in the game, while Aubrey Strelow threw 1.2 innings striking out two, and Brooklyn Compau faced the final two defensive outs for CMU.
