CLEVELAND — Thanks to their efforts in last Friday's quad meet at Georgia, senior Luciana Alvarado-Reid and graduate student Lia Kmieciak have swept the Mid-American Conference's weekly honors.
Alvarado-Reid has earned her second MAC Gymnast of the Week honor this season, the league announced on Tuesday. The senior from Cartago, Costa Rica, was key to the Chippewas' valiant effort over No. 8 Georgia, Temple and Fisk on Friday, claiming the all-around title with the score of 39.425.
She scored 9.875 on bars, beam and floor—as well as a 9.800 posted on vault. Her scores from Friday's meet equal out to her second highest career all-around score and her 21st all-around win.
Alvarado-Reid ranks first in the league on bars and floor; nationally, she sits 19th on bars and 33rd on floor.
Kmieciak received her first career MAC Specialist of the Week honor. The graduate student earned her eighth vault event title on Friday with a score of 9.875. She tied with a ranked Georgia gymnast for the top spot in the event.
Kmieciak also scored a 9.850 on bars in Friday's quad meet. Her scores on vault and bars aided in the Chippewas season-high final of 195.900 and win over Temple and Fisk.
