YPSILANTI, Mich. – Eastern Michigan got a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 15^th inning Friday in handing Central Michigan a 9-8 loss in the opener of a three-game Mid-American Conference game at the Eagles' Oestrike Stadium.

It was CMU's longest game since April 30, 2023, a 3-2 16-inning win over Miami (Ohio). Friday's game began just after 3 p.m. and ended 4 hours and 40 minutes later with a temperature of 35 degrees and a real feel of 29.

The teams play game 2 of their series on Saturday (3 p.m.) and close the series on Sunday (1 p.m.).

The Chippewas never led in the game but twice tied it, rhe first when they scored three runs in the sixth inning to make it 4-4, and the second when they scored four runs – all with two outs – in the ninth to send it to extra innings tied, 8-8.

The Eagles began the bottom of the 15^th with three consecutive singles off Gavin Moczydlowsky, the fourth Chippewa pitcher.

Moczydlowsky got a groundball that turned into a force at home for the first out of the inning, leaving the bases loaded. Leewood Molessa then lifted a flyball to right field that was caught by Harrison Bowman, but the ball was plenty deep enough to score Drew Jones from third.

Moczydlowsky (1-2) went the final 1 2/3 innings in taking the loss.

Chippewa starter Tyson Potts allowed eight runs on 12 hits, walked one and struck out three. Liam Stumpf and Nate Ross combined to throw 7 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Bowman led the Chippewas with three hits, while Drew Loikits and Miguel Correa Jr. had two each.

Brady Krzciok highlighted the Chippewas' three-run sixth inning with a two-run triple.

Correra started CMU's ninth-inning rally with a leadoff double and later scored on a Loikits sacrifice fly. Nathan Ball had an RBI double, Bowman singled in a run, and Logan Keilen singled in the tying run.
