CLEVELAND — Central Michigan senior Leila Kahler (Spring Lake, Mich. / Spring Lake) was named the Mid-American Conference Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week Tuesday afternoon, the first player from the program to earn a weekly honor from the league this season.
Â
Kahler produced her fifth double-digit performance in saves of the season (10) and a career-high save percentage (.625) in a critical performance to keep the Chippewas in the hunt for the upcoming MAC Tournament, a 7-6 victory at Youngstown State on Saturday (April 11).
Â
To open the week, the senior posted a season-high 13 saves against visiting Southern California (April 6), which lead to a .523 save percentage on a week that featured a contest with a power-conference opponent.
Â
Kahler's selection is nearly one year to the date of the program's pervious MAC weekly honoree, when both Jozy Allen (def.) and Alexa Martel (goalie) were recognized by the league office.
Â
Central Michigan sits in a four-way tie for the fourth and final spot in the MAC postseason tournament, which begins April 30 on the campus of Robert Morris University—one of the other three programs jockeying for the fourth spot.
Â
The Chippewas visit Kent State—another of the four-way battle—Saturday (April 18; 1 p.m. ET) before hosting Akron for the regular season finale (April 25; Noon ET) and senior day. CMU will recognize Kahler, Kelsey Barratt and Victoria Chesson pregame against the Zips.
