Lyon Charts Double-Double to Close out Trip to Florida

Central Michigan Volleyball will return to McGuirk Arena to open Mid-American Conference play against Eastern Michigan on Sept. 22.
MIAMI, Fla. – Central Michigan Volleyball fell to Alabama A&M in the final game of the 305 Classic hosted by FIU on Saturday afternoon. The Chippewas lost 0-3, dropping the sets 22-25, 14-25 and 20-25.
CMU's offense was led by Taylor Crip who tallied 11 kills (.226) on the outside. Brenna Storz and Lilly Mullholand each tallied seven kills. Storz hit. 500 for the match and Mullholand hit .438. Brytn Lyon totaled 29 assists for CMU and a team-high 13 digs, her first double-double of the season.
How it happened
Jaliyah Cohnes got the Chippewas on the board with her first kill of the day. Brenna Storz gave the Chippewas the lead at 4-3 early in the set with a kill off the slide.
CMU went up 10-8 with back-to back kills from Taylor Cripe. CMU trailed 13-15 at the media timeout, but the Chippewas worked back to even the set at 15-15 with an ace from Audrey Hackney and a service error from a Bulldog.
Central Michigan ended up dropping the first set, 22-25.
The Chippewas trailed 0-3 in the start of the first set, but Cripe scored the first point for the Maroon & Gold in the second set.
Alabama A&M took a 9-3 lead. After a timeout, Brenna Storz cut the Bulldog lead to five with a kill, bringing it to 7-12 in the middle of the second set. CMU dropped the second set 14-25.
The third set was back and forth at the beginning with no team builidng more than a two-point lead. Alabama rallied and CMU trailed 15-20 forcing Coach Wilson to take her second timeout of the set. Brenna Storz aced the Bulldogs and forced a timeout with CMU behind just two, 19-21.
CMU dropped the final set 20-25 and ultimately the match to the Bulldogs.
The Chippewas return to McGuirk Arena to take on Eastern Michigan on September 22. The teams will open Mid-American Conference play at 6:30 p.m.
