Billig logged seven saves, Eckenroth with Chippewas lone on target attempt

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan Field Hockey fell in its final non-conference home game to No. 13 Michigan, 5-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Chippewas came out strong on defense, leaving the Wolverines scoreless through the first 15 minutes, highlighted by four saves from junior goalkeeper Jenna Billig.

Michigan found their first goal of the game in the seventh minute of the second quarter and grew the lead to two goals with just 11 seconds remaining in the first half.

The Chippewas started their offensive push in the second quarter, with sophomore Bri Eckenroth recording the Chippewas lone on-target shot.

Michigan added two more goals in the third and capped off the day with their fifth goal with just over two minutes of game time remaining.

"We focus on how we compete, and then our hockey. For us, the speed of this game was a good follow-up for what we did on Friday." Head coach Kelly Terwilliger said, "We learned on Friday a lot about ourselves, and to us those MAC games are the most important.

"This was a good experience for us, getting to play at this speed and get a little bit more into our playing together mentality and staying focused on what we did extremely well today and multiply it for next Friday."

Central Michigan will host its Mid-American Conference home opener Friday, Sept. 25, as the Chippewas host the Ball State Cardinals.
