Matthew DePauw is in his fourth year as an assistant coach in the Central Michigan volleyball program.
During an abbreviated 2020 season, which saw the Chippewas play a shortened 22-game conference-only schedule, CMU finished 11-11 tying them for second place in the MAC West Division.
Â
In 2019, DePauw helped lead the Chippewas to their first MAC West Division championship since 2003, a 21-9 finish, and a berth in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. It marked the program’s first postseason appearance since 2011 and the 21 victories were the most for the program since 2007.
Â
DePauw works with and instructs the Chippewa setters, including Kendall Braate and Grace Butler who in 2019 combined to capture six MAC Setter of the Week Awards as CMU ranked fourth in the league with 12.46 assists per set.
Â
DePauw also serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and, as such, is the initial contact for prospective Chippewas. His day-to-day responsibilities include the distribution of recruiting tasks, planning visits, and researching prospective student-athletes as well as in-person evaluations throughout the country, the region, and the state.
Â
Prior to his arrival at CMU, DePauw spent four years as a volunteer student coach with the women’s program at Clarke University in Iowa. He also coached at Wahlert Catholic High School in Iowa and with VC United, a club program in Loves Park, Ill. He has also led various camps on both the high school and collegiate levels.
Â
DePauw was a four-year starter at setter and two-year captain for the Clarke men’s team. He ranks second in program history with 3,957 assists and eighth with 713 digs. In 2017, he earned Academic All-America honors and was named an NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Â
DePauw earned his bachelor’s degree from Clarke in 2017.
