Women's Basketball Loses To Ohio

MOUNT PLEASANT--Ohio's strong shooting and rebounding proved to be a potent combination as the Bobcats cruised to a 99-78 win over Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Rose Arena.
The Bobcats shot 65 percent (35-54) for the game and outrebounded the Chippewas, 40-26. Ohio also shot 46 percent (6-13) from the three-point line and 79 percent (23-29) from the charity stripe.
The Ohio defense held CMU to a 40 percent (25-62) shooting mark.
The loss drops CMU's record to 3-14 overall and 0-6 in the Mid-American Conference while Ohio improves to 5-12 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The visitors took control of the game from the opening tip. The Bobcats went on a 13-1 run in the opening minutes of the game to jump to a quick 15-3 advantage.
The Chippewas cut the lead to seven points at the 12:23 mark but Ohio reeled off nine unanswered points to open up a 29-13 lead.
Ohio went on another 9-0 run late in the half to make it 46-21 with 3:18 to go in the opening stanza. The Bobcats took a 52-31 advantage into the halftime break.
Cathy Szall was a key component of the Ohio offense in the opening half. She scored 20 points including three three-pointers.
Things didn't get any easier for the Chippewas in the second half. Ohio kept up its offense and didn't let CMU get any closer than 21 points.
Central improved its shooting in the second half, hitting 15-of-28 for 54 percent but the Bobcats also stepped it up, nailing 18-of-27 for 67 percent.
CMU was led by Molli Munz with 23 points. Alicia Rozak scored 16 while Desiree Eidson added 10.
The Chippewas were without the services of Beth Kindel who was out after getting hurt at Marshall.Ohio had five of its eight players score in double figures. Cathy Szall tied Munz for game-high honors with 23 points while Beckie Fischer had 19. Lori Moorman scored 16, Latreece Bagley 12 and Heather Laughlin 11.
The Chippewas continue their homestand on Wendesday when they take on Toledo.
