Field Hockey Falls To Kent State, 3-2

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Central Michigan University field hockey team (7-9, 4-5 Mid-American Conference) lost a close match to 12th-ranked Kent State on Thursday afternoon in the Indoor Athletic Complex.
The Golden Flashes jumped out to an early lead when Arlette van Cleef scored her MAC-leading 18th goal of the season with 20:01 remaining in the first half. The Chippewas notched the game at one with a goal from Meg Lewis (Pittsford, N.Y./Jr.) with no time remaining in the first half.
The Golden Flashes scored two unanswered goals less than 1:30 apart in the second half to give them a 3-1 lead. CMU pulled within one goal when Krystal Yee (Victoria, B.C./So.) scored on a pass from Jocelyn Gates (Lake Villa, Ill/Jr.) with 2:46 remaining in the game. The Chippewas had a couple of late chances but were unable to capitalize.
The Chippewas return to action Friday, Oct. 26, when they face MAC-leading Ohio in Mount Pleasant at 2 p.m.
