Two Wrestlers Win Weight Classes At Michigan State Open

EAST LANSING -- The Central Michigan wrestling team opened its season as it competed at the Michigan State Open in East Lansing last weekend.
Jason Borrelli (Mount Pleasant/Fr.) and Kevin Carr (Warsaw, Ind./So.) both won titles at their respective weight classes. He was named the "Most Outstanding Wrestler" for his accomplishments. Borrelli took the 125-pound title with a win over Michigan State's Nick Simmons, 9-6. He defeated returning All-American Chris Williams of Michigan State in the semifinals, 5-2, to advance to the finals. Carr won the 165-pound title when he defeated nationally-ranked Nick Nemeth of Kent State in the finals, 10-9.
The Chippewas had 10 wrestlers place in the top eight of the tournament. Placing for the Chippewas: Bill Stouffer (Lowell/Fr.) second at 197, Brett Faustman (Mason/Jr.) third at 197, Derek Phillips (Grosse Pointe/Jr.) third at 141, Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/So.) fourth at 149, Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill/Sr.) fourth at heavyweight, David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/Fr.) fifth at 157, Russ Vanderheyden (Rockton, Ill./Fr.) sixth at 174, Joe Ray Barry (Mason/So.) eigth at 149.
CMU opens its duals season on Wednesday, Nov. 28, when it hosts Michigan State. The first match is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
