Wrestling Wins Citadel Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Central Michigan wrestling team (0-1 overall, 0-0 Mid-American Conference) made head coach Tom Borrelli's homecoming a special one as it won The Citadel Invitational on Saturday.
The Chippewas dominated the tournament, racking up 181 points. That total was 83.5 points more then second-place, The Citadel. CMU also had nine individual champions.
Winning titles for CMU was: Jason Borrelli (Mount Pleasant/Fr.) at 125, Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Jr.) at 133, Derek Phillips (Grosse Pointe/Jr.) at 141, Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/So.) at 149, David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/Fr.) at 157, Kevin Carr (Warsaw, Ind./So.) at 165, Alex Lammers (Huber Heights, Ohio/Fr.) at 184, Brett Faustman (Mason/Jr.) at 197, and Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill./Sr.) at heavyweight.
Central Michigan also had three other wrestlers place in the top four. Taking second was Russ Vanderheyden (Rockton, Ill./Fr.) at 174 and Bill Stouffer (Lowell/Fr.) at 197. Taking fourth was Jeff Pangborn (Durand/So.) at 174.
Coach Borrelli wrestled for The Citadel from 1975-79, and grew up about 30 minutes from Charleston.
CMU returns to action this Saturday, Dec. 8, when it travels to Ann Arbor to faced No. 4 Michigan. The first match is set to start at 7 p.m.
