Women's Basketball Falls To East Division Leading Kent State

MOUNT PLEASANT--Central Michigan led early but Kent State had too much firepower as the Golden Flashes posted a 68-53 win on Saturday afternoon in Rose Arena.
The Chippewas took control in the early going. CMU scored the first four points of the game en route to a 7-2 lead with 16:59 to go.
Kent State came back to slice the lead to 10-8 at the 15:43 point.
The Golden Flashes took their first lead of the game on a three-point play by Julie Studer to make it 20-19 at the 7:29 mark.
Central briefly took back the lead before KSU took the lead for good on a jumper by Lori Krezeczowski. Her bucket started a 15-2 run by Kent State that gave the Golden Flashes a 35-23 halftime advantage.
Kent State opened the second half with nine straight points to increase its lead to 44-23 with 17:36 to play in the game.
The Chippewas got as close as 12 points but the Golden Flashes answered with a 14-4 run to make it 62-41 late in the game.
The Golden Flash defense held the Chippewas to just a 29 percent (17-58) shooting mark while KSU shot 41 percent (27-66).
The loss drops CMU's record to 3-19 overall and 0-11 in the Mid-American Conference while the Golden Flashes improve to 15-7 overall and 10-2 in the conference.
Alicia Rozak and Molli Munz led the Chippewas in scoring with 11 points each while Rozak and Vershaun Jones both had a team-best eight rebounds.
Kent State's Julie Studer had a game-high 16 points while Krezeczowski had 14 and Andrea Csaszar added 13.
The Chippewas are at Eastern Michigan on Wednesday night. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
