Wrestling Beats MAC Rival Ohio, 23-9

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan wrestling team (5-4, 1-0 Mid-American Conference) got the defense of its MAC title off on the right foot with a win over Ohio on Friday night, 23-9. The win over the reigning MAC tournament champion runs CMU's MAC winning streak to 20.
The dual began at 174 pounds where Tony Gansen (Belle Plaine, Minn./Sr.) defeated returning MAC champion Luke Moore, 3-2. Ohio battled back with wins at 184 and 197 before Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill./Sr.) evened the score with a win at heavyweight, 1-0.
CMU then reeled off wins at 125 by Jason Borrelli (Mount Pleasant/Fr.), at 133 by Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Jr.) and at 141 by Jason Mester (Mineral Pointe, Wis./So.) before Ohio picked up its last victory of the night with a close win at 149 pounds. CMU secured the victory with a wins by David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/Fr.) at 157 pounds and Kevin Carr (Warsaw, Ind./So.) at 165 pounds.
CMU returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 27, when it travels to Ypsilanti to take on Eastern Michigan. The dual is set to start at 1:00 p.m. The next home match for the Chippewas is Friday, Feb. 1, against Northern Illinois. The dual is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
