No. 17 Field Hockey Regains Control Of The MAC

Mount Pleasant - The 17th-ranked Central Michigan University field hockey team (13-5, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) celebrated senior day with a 4-2 victory over Miami on Sunday afternoon in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
With the victory, and Louisville's loss to Ohio on Saturday, the Chippewas regained sole possesion of first place in the MAC.
The Redhawks scored the first goal at 13:01 in the first half when Lindi Bortnik slid the ball past CMU goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Sr.) for the first of her two goals on the day.
The Chippewas responded by scoring four unanswered goals to put the game away.
Sophomore Michelle Fogle (Columbus, Ohio) scored back-to-back goals in the first half to get the Chippewa scoring started. It was her career-high fifth and sixth goals of the season.
Allison Foland (Springfield, Va.) scored her career-high third goal of the sesaon to give CMU a 3-1 lead just before the halftime break.
Kristy Reed rounded out the scoring for CMU at 50:38 in the second half. It was Reed's team-leading 10th goal of the season. She is the first Chippewa to score double-digit goals since Mellissa Lazarevski scored 17 in the 2000 season, and only the eighth ever to accomplish that feat.
The Chippewas go on the road next weekend, needing two wins to clinch the MAC regular sesaon title. They face Ohio on Friday, November 1, at 3 p.m., and Kent Sate on Saturday, November 2, at 7 p.m.
