No. 16 Field Hockey Clinches Share Of MAC Title

ATHENS, OHIO - The 16th-ranked Central Michigan University field hockey team (13-5, 6-2 Mid-American Conference) can do no worse than tie for the regualr season MAC title after beating defending MAC champ Ohio on Friday afternoon, 3-1.
For the fourth straight game, the Chippewas fell behind, 1-0, in the first half. Ohio's Elizabeth Unger opened the scoring 16 minutes into the game.
Meg Lewis (Pittsford, N.Y./Sr.) responded for CMU when she scored off a Tarah Trottier (Kitchener, Ont./Jr.) pass to tie the game at one.
Trottier added a goal just 1:20 into the second half to give the Chippewas the lead for good. It was Trottier's second game-winning goal of the season.
Kristy Reed added her team-leading 11th goal of the season at te 46:41 mark for insurance.
CMU netminder Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Sr.) made seven saves in recording her career-high 14th win of the season.
The Chippewas can earn the MAC title outright and the first seed in the MAC tournament with a win over No. 11 Kent State tomorrow at 7 p.m., in Kent, Ohio.
