No. 16 Field Hockey Falls, Shares MAC Title

KENT, OHIO - The 16th-ranked Central Michigan University field hockey team (14-6, 6-3 Mid-American Conference) are the co-MAC regular season champions despite falling to No. 11 Kent State on Saturday night, 2-1, in overtime.
The game went scoreless into the second half untill Kristy Reed (Lake Villa, Ill./So.) gave the Chippewas the lead with her 12th goal of the season.
The Golden Flashes wasted no time answering back. Jennifer Melnyk knotted the game at one seven minutes after the Reed goal on a penalty shot.
Kent State outshot the Chippewas 4-0 in the extra period and eventually ended the game on Melnyk's second penalty shot of the game.
CMU goalie Janel Spero (Shoreham, N.Y./Sr.) made four saves and gave up two goals, both on penalty shots.
The Chippewas will be the second seed in the MAC tournament. Louisville will be the top seed, holding the tie-breaker over CMU after beating it twice during the season.
The MAC tournament will begin on Friday, November 8, in Oxford, Ohio. Game times are yet to be announced.
