Wrestling Defeats Northern Illinois, 18-14

MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan wrestling team (7-4, 3-0 Mid-American Conference) defeated Northern Illinois on Friday night, 18-14. Both teams entered the dual unbeaten in the MAC, the Huskies are now 4-1 in the MAC.
Bill Stouffer (Lowell/Fr.) got CMU off to a fast start with a win at 197 over Jack Dennis, 3-2. Central Michigan used the momentum from that match to win the first four matches of the dual with wins by Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill./Sr.) at heavyweight, Jason Borrelli (Mount Pleasant/Fr.) and Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill/Jr.). After the Huskies picked up a win at 141 pounds, CMU responded with a win by Derek Phillips(Grosse Point/Jr.) at 149 pounds, 5-2. Northern Illinois fought back with a win at 157 pounds but CMU put the dual away with a win at 165 pounds by David Bolyard (Akron, Ohio/Fr.). The Huskies finished off the dual with wins at 174 and 184 pounds. .
CMU takes a week off before traveling to New York to face MAC rival Buffalo on Saturday, Feb. 9, and No. 17 Edinboro on Sunday, Feb. 10. The dual at Buffalo will start at 1 p.m., and the Edinboro match will begin at 7 p.m..
