Wrestling Falls To Edinboro, 24-13

EDINBORO, PA. - The Central Michigan wrestling team (8-5, 4-0 Mid-American Conference) fell to Edinboro on Sunday night, 24-13. With the win, the Fighting Scots avenged an earlier beating by CMU at the National Duals.
Jack Leffler (Morris, Ill./Sr.) got CMU started off on the right foot with a win at heavyweight. Edinboro picked up a major decision at 125 to take a one-point lead but Central fought back as Jordan Webster (Washington, Ill./Jr.) upset 13th-ranked Cory Ace, 3-2, at 133. Edinboro took back the lead with a win by fall at 141 pounds but the Chippewas tied it up with a major decision by Ty Morgan (Huber Heights, Ohio/So.) at 149.
That was as close as CMU would get with Edinboro winning the next three matches to put away to the meet. The final win for CMU was by Tony Gansen (Belle Plain, Minn./Sr.) at 184 pounds.
In other CMU wrestling action, CMU assistant coach Casey Cunningham also competed over the week, taking third in the Dan Schultz Memorial International. Cunningham went 3-1 in his freestyle matches at 74 kg, defeating defending Olympic champion Daniel Igali of Canada by injury default in the third-place match. In the semifinals, he fell to Donny Pritzlaff of the USA in overtime, 8-5. Cunningham will return to his coaching duties this week after spending the past week and a half in Colorado Springs, Colorado training.
CMU returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 15, when it travels to Princton, N.J. to battle the Tigers. The dual is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
