MOUNT PLEASANT - Valparaiso University bounced back from a lack-luster first-half performance to erase a nine-point halftime deficit and top the Central Michigan University women's basketball team here this afternoon, 66-46.
The Crusaders (2-3 overall) scored at a 56.3 percent clip (18-for-32) in the second half and outscored the Chippewas, 44-15, en route to the 20-point win. CMU (1-2 overall) hit only four field goals in the second half and shot 17.4 percent (4-for-23) in the second stanza . Chasidy Myers led the Chippewas in scoring. She had 16 first-half points but got into foul trouble and only had two shot attempts in the second half. Myers led all scorers.
CMU didn't score a field goal in the first four minutes of the second half as Valpo cut the Chippewas' halftime lead from nine to four points in that span. A 10-0 run ending at 11:44 of the second gave the Crusaders a seven-point cushion. Valpo would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game, slowly extending it to the final of 20 points.
Valpo's Suzie Hammel scored 16 points, all in the second half, to lead the Crusaders to victory. Both Meredith Baugher and Jenna Stangler had 11 points in the second half, finishing with 13.

The first half was the exact opposite as the Chippewas jumped all over the Crusaders in building a nine-point cushion at the half. The high-low game allowed Myers to bag 16 points on 7-for-11 shooting. The Chippewas shot 41.9 percent (13-for-31) from the floor in the first stanza.
The Crusaders came out cold, shooting only 36 percent (9-for-25) from the field and were a woeful 2-for-11 (.182) from three-point range. Their leading scorer at the half was Mayella Kuikhoven with five. She finished with five points.
