Xavier Cruises Past Women's Basketball, 72-35

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Xavier University surged past the Central Michigan University women's basketball team in the first half en route to the 72-35 win in the first game of the Provident Bank Xavier Invitational this afternoon.
A six-minute offensive dry spell for CMU (1-3 overall) allowed Xavier (3-2 overall) to take control away from the Chippewas. The Maroon and Gold raced out of the blocks to a 4-0 lead but the Musketeers went on 25-2 run in the first half that gave them the one-sided, 19-point advantage.
The Musketeers took a 24-point lead into the half, outscoring the Chippewas, 41-17. Xavier hit on 60 percent of its shots in the first stanza, compared to 17.1 percent for the Chippewas.
The Xavier lead stretched to as much as 35 in the second half, eventually topping out at 37 at the end of the game.
The Chippewa offense struggled the entire game as CMU only connected for a total of 11 field goals, shooting 19 percent from the floor for game.
Xavier outrebounded the visitors, 45-41.
Xavier's Tara Boothe, a freshman All-American last year, finished with game-high honors in both scoring and rebounding. She tallied 23 points and 12 boards.
Casey Manning led the Chippewa charge with 10 points. Erin Kuhl led all Chippewa rebounders with six boards.
CMU returns to the hardwood to play in the consolation game of the Provident Bank Xavier Invitational. The Chippewas will play the winner of the High Point/East Tennessee State match at 1 p.m.
